At 95 years old, Frank Hursh spends most of his days painting in his studio in Queretaro, Mexico. In the winter of 2017, we had the opportunity to meet Frank while installing an exhibition featuring work by students of Black Mountain College.

Frank studied at the experimental liberal arts college between 1949-50. His time at BMC made a lasting impression, forever influencing his work and his philosophies on creative expression. In this short film, Frank works on his latest piece and speaks about the importance of color and creativity.

This ongoing documentary project has taken us to a number of incredible places - from Queretaro, Mexico to Frank’s alma mater, Black Mountain College in North Carolina.
